Ponderings #1: Fridge magnets

We spent a few days of our holiday in Tintagel, visting out best man, Kris. Now, Kris is the kind of bloke who is drawn to dark places that sell pints of beer, and in fact seems rarely to be without a pint of the foaming hop juice in his hand when he's relaxing. This lead to the following exchange:

Colin: I'm glad to see nothing changes - you're still a beer magnet as ever.

(beer magnet - one who draws towards himself/magnetises/attracts beer)

Kris: Yeah, I'd rather be a babe magnet, but hey.

(babe magnet - one who draws towards himself/magnetises/attracts the laydees).

Now this is where my train of thought derailed slightly. If in common parlance, this patteren were logically followed, it would mean that 'fridge magnets,' were things that attracted/ drew/ magnetised actuall fridges.

Which lead to some mental images which kept me amused for ooh, a good ten minutes!

I'm thinking about souvenir shops selling magnets that stick to beer and babes now.

Do you think they'd do those ones that have deep yet quaint sayings typed over cute pictures?
